Intro to the Final Part
Welcome to the final part of this long painting session. By now, you should have realized that creating strong, impactful paintings requires both time and concentration. Layering is key to achieving depth and presence, as is balancing spontaneity and unfinished elements with the highest level of refinement.
In this session, we will continue developing the painting with a holistic approach, considering each element in relation to the whole. We’ll aim for harmony throughout, making thoughtful decisions that connect with what we’ve already created. I’ll begin by working on the dress and background, then give the portrait a final push to make it even more present and impactful. Finally, we’ll integrate the figure into the composition with a last “sealing” layer using the "Treble Layers" method.
Many painters say that how you finish a painting is more important than how you start. I second that. While a strong beginning lays the foundation for a successful piece, no painting is ever truly lost—if you know how to look at it and where to apply those final touches that bring everything together. Even works that once seemed weak and pointless can be transformed with the right insight and technique.
So never discard an artwork—set it aside for the future. As your skills grow, you’ll develop the ability to see hidden potential and bring those unfinished pieces to life.
