In this first part of a special two-month series, I’ll share the layered, mixed-media approaches I use to create expressive grounds — from treble layering to “inside-out” and “outside-in” methods, blending oils, gold leaf, sprays, and more. You’ll experiment with at least three medium-sized panels, which will be used as additional starting base for other paintings and/or Part II.
